Dental Cleaning
Good oral hygiene is important, not only for looks, but for general health as well. Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems such as gum disease, infection, bone loss, heart disease, strokes and more. Regular check ups and cleanings can prevent these problems as well as provide you with oral hygiene instructions. Dental cleanings and exams are recommended every 6 months.
Why should I have regular teeth cleanings?
What is the procedure?
The hygienist examines your mouth using a small mirror to check for gum inflammation, plaque buildup, and other potential issues.
Using a scaler, the hygienist removes plaque and tartar buildup, especially along the gumline and between teeth.
A high-powered electric brush is used with a gritty toothpaste to scrub away any remaining plaque and surface stains. This helps smooth the teeth and prevents future plaque buildup.
The hygienist will floss between your teeth to remove debris and ensure your gums are healthy.
Some cleanings end with a fluoride treatment to strengthen teeth and protect against cavities.
The dentist may do a final inspection, discuss any issues, and give recommendations for better oral care.
The whole procedure usually takes 30-60 minutes and is painless, though some people may feel slight discomfort, especially if they have sensitive teeth or a lot of tartar buildup.
