DENTAL CLEANINGS: Good oral hygiene is important, not only for looks, but for general health as well. Poor oral hygiene can lead to a variety of dental and medical problems such as gum disease, infection, bone loss, heart disease, strokes and more. Regular check ups and cleanings can prevent these problems as well as provide you with oral hygiene instructions. Dental cleanings and exams are recommended every 6 months.
CROWNS: Crowns, also referred to as caps, are custom made to fit over your whole tooth after the dentist has prepared it. They are usually made out of acrylic or porcelain that has been fused to metal, to withstand biting pressure. Crowns can be used in cosmetic dentistry to treat teeth that are poorly shaped, badly decayed, broken or chipped, have had large fillings and to cover spaces in between teeth.
FILLINGS: A cavity is a hole in the tooth that is caused by decay. Decay occurs when plaque, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars and / or starches of the food we eat. This combination produces acids that attack tooth enamel. The best way to prevent tooth decay is brushing twice a day, flossing daily and going to your regular dental cleanings / check-ups. Eating healthy food and avoiding snacks and drinks that are high in sugar are also ways to prevent decay.
X-RAYS: Dental x-rays are a type of picture of the teeth and moth. X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, just like visible light. They are of higher energy, however can penetrate the body to form an image on film. We use a digital x-ray system which generates a lower level of radiation.
INVISALIGN: Invisalign straightens your teeth with a series of clear, virtually invisible custom-molded aligners. Because these aligners are clear you can keep your active lifestyle during treatment. An average Invisalign course of treatment takes about a year. For additional information check out www.invisalign.com. Invisalign is an alternative to wearing brackets and wires.
TEETH WHITENING: Also called teeth bleaching can brighten and whiten your teeth from discoloration and / or staining. The procedure can be done in the Dental Office (Power Whitening) or at home (with Daywhite Trays)
VENEERS: Veneers are a thin shell made out of porcelain or composite material. They are custom made and cemented to the front side of the tooth. A veneer can be used to treat dental conditions such as a slightly crooked tooth, discolored teeth, and chipped teeth or even to cover spaces between teeth.
IMPLANTS: A dental implant is a metal devise designed to replace missing teeth. The device is usually made out of titanium and is surgically placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing. A dental implant is designed to act as the tooth root and can anchor an artificial tooth or teeth such as crown, bridge or denture. We consider implants to be like bionic teeth and are very strong.
DENTAL BRIDGE: A Dental Bridge is a dental appliance that is permanently cemented onto adjacent teeth to replace one or more missing teeth. A Dental Bridge typically lasts about 5 years. Bridges connect teeth together.
ROOT CANAL: The space inside the tooth from the center, known as the pulp chamber, that travels down the length of the root to the tip is called a “canal”. Human teeth may have one to four root canals, depending on the anatomy of the tooth.
